Who We Are

Who We Are:

WCVS is a registered charity supporting community development through voluntary action. We are a local development and support organisation (also known as an infrastructure body)  . What we aim to create is social capital which is what builds communities. We have a membership and a Board of Directors who are elected. The Board includes people with much voluntary, public and business experience who are committed to developing the CVS and supporting the voluntary sector. A number of our Board members have direct experience of starting, running, funding and building voluntary organisations. The Board of WCVS are all volunteers (i.e. unpaid) .

Our Aims:

Supporting and promoting a strong, dynamic and influential voluntary and community sector,  working to identify and develop projects and services that overcome inequalities, meet local needs and support community development through voluntary action.

Our charitable objectives:

  • To promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the community and in particular, the advancement of education, the protections of health and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness.
  • To promote and organise co-operation in the achievement of the above purposes and to that end to bring together in council representatives of voluntary organisations and statutory services.
  • To promote equal opportunities and good race relations.

Representing a Diverse Sector

The voluntary sector includes thousands of groups, large and small forming a key part of what is frequently called ‘civil society’. Through strategic representation and direct support we are jointly building a strong voluntary and community sector. If you are in an established voluntary organisation or social enterprise, if you are trying to start one or trying to find a service offered by one we have support and information.

Support Network

Worthing CVS brings groups together to talk and share experience, learn from each other and respond to key issues and local plans. We promote voluntary sector activity using our local knowledge, expertise and networks to identify need and develop services that can meet it. We run Worthing Volunteer Centre to promote volunteering, help volunteer-involving organisations to recruit volunteers and enable the public to find ways of being involved in their community through volunteering opportunities.

Collaboration

Worthing CVS works in collaboration with all the CVS’ in West Sussex and is affiliated to NAVCA and therefore part of the national network of CVS’s of which there are 350+ nationally. We are accredited by Volunteering England . We believe that local issues respond best to local solutions and we aim to provide leadership to maintain Worthing's vibrant voluntary sector.

Partners

WCVS also works alongside public and private sector partners giving voice to issues and making contributions in support of voluntary and community sector participation and activism in local plans and development.
