    Covering Worthing & Adur there is the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) known as Waves Ahead'  which has developed the sustainable community strategy (SCS) for both areas. This is a  'big plan' for both areas covering priorities which include:

    • Better health & wellbeing for all
    • Learning training and employment opportunities for all

  • Adur & Worthing Communities team are working in partnership with other agencies to deliver a pilot “Money Matters” session in the Durrington area offering help to local families

    Monday 5th March at 10-12 am to Phoenix Project /With a cup of Coffee, tea and fruit for the children and use of all the play equipment.

    Venue: the Northbrook Project, 41 Romany Road, Worthing

    This informal workshop will be hosted by the Phoenix Project in Durrington at their play and stay session to enable parents to attend with support from the Children & Family Centers outreach worker.

    The session will be delivered by Citizen’s Advice Bureau and West Sussex Credit union providing financial guidance and advice. It is about giving people the skills, knowledge and confidence to make the financial choices that are right for them and help them avoid crises. DOWNLOAD A FLYER

  • The Communities Minister, Andrew Stunell, is inviting community and voluntary organisations to apply for a share of £100 million, which has been set aside to revitalise communities by bringing the empty homes in their areas back into use.

    The scheme is assisted by the New Homes Bonus, which rewards councils for making use of empty homes. Tribal Education Ltd will be administering the Empty Homes Community Grants Programme on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

    Successful applications will:

    • Bring empty home back into use as affordable housing
    • Deliver value for money
    • Have the support of the local authority
    • Have an expected completion date before 31 March 2015.

  • This is the fifth round of a European scheme that will fund the development of ICT-based solutions which help older people to continue managing their daily activities in their home. It will also fund ICT-based solutions which support informal carers of older people.

    The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme will be launched at the end of February 2012.

    There will be an information event on 13 March 2012 in Brussels which all potential applicants are advised to attend. Those wishing to go should register their interest by sending an e-mail to Jacqueline Teller before 24 February 2012.

  • The Prevention & Wellbeing Grants Programme for 2012/2013 is now open to  applications from Voluntary and Community organisations and groups until Friday 2nd March, 2012. The total funding available is £190k and applications are invited from across West Sussex.

    The programme funds start up costs for services and activities for Adults including Older People, which contribute, at a local level, to the objectives of the Prevention and Wellbeing Agenda:

    • Social contact and stimulation
    • Activity and exercise
    • Occupational/educational activities
    • Peer support groups
    • Maintaining or restoring independence

    WSCC would be especially pleased to hear from organisations that provide innovative, community based activities for people that enable social opportunities for participants to make friends and see people. You may like to look at the Day Activities Consultation Report undertaken in 2011 by  WSCC, which indicates the types of activities that local people have said they would like to take part in.     Grant applications are limited to an upper value of £5k. Please note that applications in respect of services for Children and People with Learning Difficulties are outside of this process.   • Funding Advice Surgery Slots are available with Worthing Borough Council''s external funding manager, Katie Neal.

    Every Thursday for the next 3 months between 9.30am and 1.30pm there will be 45 minute slots available for groups that need help and advice regarding funding. They are currently available in Worthing throughout Jan, Feb and March.  Groups need to have completed the development support form at time of booking a slot which you can download here.

  • Support Workers (17.5 and 21 hours) £6.88 ph (weekdays) or £7.91 ph (Saturday)

    We currently require two support workers (7 hour shifts) for Methold House, Worthing and the Lovett Centre, Goring with occasional outreach activities. Applicants should have experience working with older people, show initiative, be able to work unsupervised and be prepared to lead group activities. Our customers are aged 55 to 101 and have a wide range of abilities; some with dementia and others a learning disability.

    Prevention Link Worker (15 hours) £15,612 - £16,688 (pro rata)

    Our Outreach Team in the community promotes individual health and wellbeing by providing early intervention and encouraging self help across Worthing and Adur.

    The successful applicant will take on a range of short term pieces of work, by giving information and providing some practical support with individual older people or groups. They will also need to identify health and wellbeing improvement needs in the community. The role is based at Methold House.

    Good local knowledge, excellent communication skills and a car driver (with access to a car) is essential.

    Adur Outreach Worker (15 hours – 1 year project) £15,612 - £16,688 (pro rata)

    The ideal candidate will have experience of working with older people and sharing information in the community. They will research, deliver and support community based health and wellbeing group activities across Adur, sometimes working partnership and building links with other local organisations and professionals.

    Good knowledge of the Adur area, excellent communication skills and a car driver (with access to a car) is essential.

  • Part-Time Organiser (25 hours per week over 5 days) Salary £20,200 (NJC Scale point 23 ) (Actual £13,650)

    Home-Start is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5 years of age.

    We are looking for an Organiser who will be responsible for recruiting, training, supervising and supporting a team of volunteers. Parenting experience, excellent communication skills and an understanding of the needs of vulnerable children and their families are essential, as is the ability to liaise with statutory and voluntary services. Working knowledge of office systems and IT and experience of delivering training is required.

    Minimum Level 3 qualification in Family Support/Education/Health or equivalent is essential. Car owner is necessary. CRB Enhanced Disclosure will be required.

  • Assistant Retail Shop Manager Salary - £5,774 per annum (£14,434 per annum full time equivalent)

    15 hours per week, working Wednesdays and alternate Fridays and Saturdays

    A vacancy has arisen at Worthing Churches Homeless Projects’ Charity shop in Montague Street for an Assistant Retail Shop Manager.

    The post holder will be required to support the Retail Shop Manager in the management and co-ordination of the retail activities of the shop and to maximise income from the resources provided. The post holder will also take on these responsibilities in the Manager’s absence.
