The Neighbourhood Care Alliance (NCA) brings together voluntary and community organisations who provide services at neighbourhood level to enhance the independence of older people.

The NCA started as a pilot project in association with West Sussex County Council Adult Services . The aims of the NCA are to:

  • help voluntary and community groups who serve the needs of older people to maximise their resources and publicise their services
  • share information, expertise and training
  • access support including funding to strengthen their services
  • close the ‘gaps’ in the services which older people need*
  • ensure that older people and the agencies they are in contact with know about the wide range of services available to help them

The Neighbourhood Care Alliance has a database of over 130 local voluntary and community based groups providing services for older people which include social care, health support, hobbies, homecare, transport and much more.

The NCA is also part of the new Partnership for Older People’s Projects (POPPs) in partnership with West Sussex County Council Adult Services and the Primary Care Trust. The POPPs programme aims to enhance the independence of older people in West Sussex through a range of inter-related interventions and services in the community and at neighbourhood level.

Further information about this can be found at www.wnca.org.uk

Four new Community Engagement Workers working within the POPPs programme framework have joined Worthing CVS as part of the Neighbourhood Care Alliance project. Their role will include developing neighbourhood volunteering to support the low-level needs of older people, e.g. shopping, practical help, social outings etc.

They are based in the community and they are:

  • Linda Jones who will cover mainly the wards of Broadwater, Selden and Central: linda.nca@btconnect.com
  • Joe Payne who will cover mainly the wards of Northbrook, Durrington, Salvington and Offington: joseph.nca@btconnect.com
  • Angie Bacon who will cover mainly the wards of Goring, Marine and Heene: angie.nca@btconnect.com
  • Pat Davies who will cover mainly the wards of Castle, Tarring and Gaisford and who will also support volunteer co-ordination across all areas: pat.nca@btonnect.com

If you are over 50 years of age and need help at home or with small tasks that a volunteer might do or you are someone who could volunteer to help an older neighbour, please do contact us on 01903 538904 and we will put you in touch with your nearest Community Engagement Worker.
